Happy Birthday Aaron!

On the spur of the moment last night I decided to make a Strawberry Shortcake for Aaron's birthday. Looking through the recipe book I found one for a Lemon-Poppy Seed Strawberry Shortcake, so I decided to make that one, but without the poppy seed since I don't care for it. It turned out fantastic! Happy Birthday Aaron!

Quentin decided to line up his cars in the stair railing.

Feb. Recap

Here's a quick recap of our Feb. 2010.

Happy Birthday to my mom.
Happy Birthday to Aaron's mom.
Spend some time in Ames.
Back to Osky.
Back to Ames - Happy Birthday to my nephew Jesse!, Take Quentin to a ISU women's basketball game, Take Quentin ice skating for the first time (he loved it!).
Back to Osky.
Get Aaron's car picked up from DSM where it was getting repaired.
I get sick.
Happy Birthday to Aaron's dad.
I'm still sick (but much improved today).
Happy Birthday to my dad (in a couple of days).
And we'll end the month by heading down to Ottumwa for a winterfest put on by Aaron's work. They're doing a murder mystery deal with dinner. Should be a good time!

And through all of this there has been snow, snow, snow. Too much snow!

I've also been working on some drawings for one of Aaron's coworkers. He did some fantastic photos of Quentin and in exchange for some money off our total he wanted me to draw some animal pics for his son. I was happy to oblige! Here are a couple of the drawings I did. Sorry for the poor picture quality - I seem to take very good slightly blurry pictures!

2 Year Checkup

Quentin had his 2 year checkup yesterday and for the most part everything went well. As I suspected he hadn't gained much weight; just over an ounce since we were last there in Oct. Fortunately he was still on the charts at just over the 5% for his age so the doctor wasn't too concerned and we don't have to repeat weight checks every week again.
Both his hemoglobin and ferritin levels were up a little too. We still have to continue with the extra iron drops for him though since it is still on the low side of normal.
On the down side she did find a heart murmur, but seemed very optimistic about it. As she put it to me: on a scale of 0 to 100 I'm only at a 5 for concern. We're going back in in 2 weeks to get a vaccination for him and she's going to listen to see if it's still there at that time. I'm hoping it will correct itself soon and we won't have to worry about it ever again!
On the plus side she told me that Q speaks very clearly for a child his age and that he seems to have an understanding of emotions that is rarely seen at 2 years. He also seems advanced in learning letters, numbers and colors.
