The Big Move

We finally made it to Iowa. It has been one long week for us. Two days of packing and loading all our stuff, one day of driving, one day running around town getting papers signed and various utilities set up, and so far one day of getting everything in the house and working on unpacking. A big thanks to our parents for all their help - it wouldn't have gone nearly as well without you!

Q Drinks Milk!

So the trick is to give it to him out of my cup and he drinks it just fine. Whatever works.

Weight Gain

When we took Q in to the doc for his one year checkup he had just been getting over a cold of which he hadn't eaten well for about 1 1/2 weeks. Therefore he had only gained 4 oz since his previous visit of 2 months earlier. So we had to bring him back in for a weight checkup. Since he's been eating like a little piggy the last 2 weeks I haven't been too concerned. This morning I took him in for the weight checkup and he has gained 10 oz in the last 3 weeks! His grand weight total is 19 lbs 6.5 oz. Go Quentin!

Juice

Back in Nov. Quentin said his first words - Bow wow wow and quack. Both come from the book Moo Baa La La La by Sandra Boynton. Since then I've heard him say la la la as well. Then on Friday he added a new word - juice. Which has nothing to do with a book he's heard repeatedly. I asked him if he was ready for some juice and O's (what I've been calling cheerios) and he replied with "juice".

Why?

Quentin has taken to waking up at 5 am (for the 3rd time today). Aaron and I are both so tired because of this. I think he's going through a growth spurt and is hungry at this time. We've been spending about 45 min to an hour trying to get him back to sleep and then give up and go ahead and feed him his breakfast. And then he takes a nap for about an hour, waking up at his former usual time of 7:30ish. Please tell me this isn't going to continue for much longer.
Also we've been frustrated with him not drinking much formula or milk. He pretty much only drinks 6 oz of formula first thing in the morning and then nothing the rest of the day (formula or milk-wise). He gets apple juice in his cereal both morning and evening plus some out of a sippy cup mid-morning. Otherwise he only takes a couple of sips of either formula or milk at lunch, afternoon snack, and dinner. Any suggestions on how to get him to drink more milk? I did try chocolate milk yesterday with no luck.

Netbook

I love the new HP mini netbook that Aaron and I got Sat. It's so great! I can easily browse the internet and watch Q at the same time. Our desktop is down in the basement which is not so convenient (and colder). Anytime I thought of something I wanted to check/look up on the internet I had to run down to do so. Sometimes Quentin did just fine with that and other times he would stand at the top of the stairs and yell and scream the whole time. I'm very happy with the improvement!

One Year Checkup

Quentin recently had his one year checkup. Overall he's doing great. He is 31 inches in height (75th-90th percentile), 18 lbs 12 oz (3rd-5th percentile). Since he hadn't gained much weight since his last visit 2 months ago we have to take him back in to have his weight checked again in a couple of weeks. We're hoping that his lack of weight gain is from a cold he has just recovered from. He didn't eat so well for about a week and a half. He seems just fine otherwise and has been eating much better the last day or two, so we're hopeful that that is the issue there. The only other thing is that he has a large cyst (most likely according to the doc) on his ankle so we're going to have to take him to an orthopedic to have it looked at. I'm assuming we're going to hear what they said about the one on my wrist - we can leave it, drain it, or surgically remove it. It doesn't seem to bother him any, but I think we'll see about having them drain it. I certainly hope they'll be able to just do it right then and be done with it.

Birthday Parties

We did indeed have more than one party for Quentin for his birthday. First we did a party in Elgin which went fairly well. Quentin got upset a couple of times, but we managed to calm him down. The party in Ames didn't go so well since Q was sick with a cold, but Julie made a cake for him that looked fantastic (and tasted it too!). Finally, we did a party for him here which went quite well. No getting upset, just running around having a good time. Next year I think we're going to be able to do just one party and have everyone come to our new house in Iowa. Yay! So keep your calenders open for sometime around Dec. 31.
